When the Dutch settlers arrived and especially the animals they took with them such as rats and pigs had a disastrous effect on the Dodos, especially their eggs and young. The Dodo lived in the forests on the island of Mauritius and probably became extinct between 1680 and 1690. The Dodo was a bird with small wings that were no longer suitable for flight. The Dodo could only move on foot, the animal was about a meter high and was notable for its long, curved beak.
